Apartment Industry Enables Successful Student Careers

By Madison White on August 30, 2016

For many students, the pressure to balance multiple, usually minimum wage jobs can be overwhelming. However, there is a new market on the rise for college students and graduates that can fulfill those needs.

The apartment industry is on the rise and contributes nearly $200 billion to the national economy. Research by the National Multifamily Housing Council, the National Apartment Association, and George Mason University’s Center for Regional Analysis states that the industry supports 496,000 jobs to manage these properties.

For budding or graduating business students, the apartment industry provides great opportunities like becoming a leasing consultant, community manager, maintenance technician, and even assistant property manager. Leasing consultants help prospective tenants find their new homes. Maintenance technicians fix anything from floors, water heaters, and even flooding dishwashers.

Careers in this field combine the skills of teamwork with the benefits of quick advancement and rent benefits.

Students can approach a career in the apartment industry from multiple angles. Some can achieve this by graduating with a four year degree, but others can complete two year programs like the one offered at Montgomery College in Rockville, MD for becoming an apartment maintenance technician.

Other universities and colleges have partnered with The National Apartment Association Education Institute to connect their graduates with jobs in industry.

So far, students that have pursued this option are confident and happy with their decisions. If you’re interested in a similar path, visit http://www.rpmcareers.org/ or see the original press release article here.
